The climate emergency is humanity’s biggest challenge. At Mitie, we support customers in implementing and achieving their net zero ambitions, simultaneously reducing costs, improving efficiency and decarbonising for the good of future generations. We believe our people should understand the consequences of our environmental impact. A strong commitment to sustainability and social change underpins everything we do.
Mitie is committed to achieving net zero carbon across the business by 2025 for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and Scope 3 by 2035. In March 2023, we received validation from the Science Based Target initiative for near-term, long-term and net zero carbon reduction targets.
From planning to action
Environmental strategy
Mitie is a profitable, socially responsible and environmentally sustainable business, but there’s still so much to do. Our strategy sets out actions and outcomes within the Mitie to drive positive change, such as reaching net zero years ahead of the UK Government’s 2050 target.
Discover the steps we’re taking to drive Mitie towards a net zero future.
Our net zero aims are industry leading. From reducing waste through a circular economy, switching our fleet to electric vehicles and increasing biodiversity, Mitie’s plans are well underway.
Mitie employs over 72,000 colleagues, working with over 3,000 diverse customers. Through the work we do, we make a positive difference to the lives of millions of people. And we take that responsibility very seriously.
Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives form a key part of how Mitie does business, from managing risk to driving growth opportunities. We offer everything from energy strategy and electric fleet consultancy to decarbonisation of estates and buildings.
Our activities support us in transforming customer workspaces to be more flexible, safe, sustainable and attractive for everyone. Thanks to our Cleaning and Hygiene Centre of Excellence (CHCE), we’ve developed a unique approach to cleaning without harmful and toxic chemicals, but that keeps spaces spotless.
Facilities management organisations can positively impact the environment, make a significant difference in the workplace and deliver social value to local communities and beyond. At Mitie we’re proud to be leading the way.
